Academic Chairman
Prof. Dr. Pasquale Pistone is the Academic Chairman of IBFD. He holds a Jean Monnet ad personam Chair in European Tax Law and Policy at WU Vienna University of Economics and Business (Austria) and is Associate Professor of Tax Law at the University of Salerno (Italy). His main fields of expertise are European and international tax law, in which he is regarded as a top academic expert in various parts of the world.

Professors/Senior Principals
Prof. Jan de Goede, Senior Principal, Tax Knowledge Management, reports directly to the CEO of IBFD and has held several positions during his 21 years at IBFD, including the role of Director of the Knowledge Centre. He performs various academic, teaching and government consultancy activities and is liaison officer for relations with the OECD, UN (member of the UN Subcommittees on Dispute Avoidance and Settlement and on the Taxation of Extractive Industries) and ICC (member of its Tax Committee).
Dr. Joanna C. Wheeler is a senior member of the IBFD academic group. She established the advanced LL.M. programme in international tax law offered by the University of Amsterdam as a joint project with IBFD and was the programme director for its first four years of operation, from 2015 to 2019. She continues to participate actively in the programme, as the thesis director.
IBFD Professor in Residence 2021
Yariv Brauner is IBFD’s Professor-in-Residence for 2021. He is also the Hugh Culverhouse Eminent Scholar Chair in Taxation and a Professor of Law with the Levin College of Law at the University of Florida. He joined the Florida faculty in 2006, after teaching at NYU, Northwestern and ASU.

Prof. Dr. Betty Andrade Rodríguez is Managing Editor of the Global Tax Treaty Commentaries (GTTC) and Scientific Coordinator of the Observatory on the Protection of Taxpayers’ Rights (OPTR). She obtained her law degree summa cum laude from Andrés Bello Catholic University, in Caracas, and holds an LLM and a PhD in Law from the Central University of Venezuela. From 2016-2017, she was a postdoctoral research fellow at IBFD.

Dr. Alessandro Turina is a senior research associate at IBFD, where he focuses on international and European tax law. He holds a PhD in International Tax Law from Bocconi University (Milan, Italy), where he has also been a research and teaching associate.

Prof. Dr. Craig West is Managing editor of IBFD's World Tax Journal and of the IBFD Doctoral Series. He is an Associate Professor at the University of Cape Town, and his areas of expertise are international and South African income tax, in which he has published a number of articles and chapters.

Postdoctoral Research Fellows
Dr Susi Baerentzen holds a Carlsberg Foundation Postdoc Fellowship at IBFD for research on taxpayers’ rights. In 2020, she obtained a PhD in international tax law and economics, writing on the effectiveness of general anti-avoidance rules in the OECD and the European Union. As part of this project, she worked for five years in the International Tax Law department of one of the Big Four corporations in Denmark.
Dr Ivan Lazarov is a postdoctoral research fellow at IBFD. He obtained his PhD degree at the Vienna University of Economics and Business as part of the Doctoral Program in International Business Taxation (DIBT). He was also a research and teaching associate at the Institute for Austrian and International Tax Law in Vienna.
Prof. Dr. Luís Flávio Neto is a postdoctoral research fellow at IBFD. He is also a professor at the Instituto Brasileiro de Direito Tributário (IBDT) in Brazil, where he has taught international and Brazilian taxation courses. He has also taught undergraduate and postgraduate courses at the Universidade São Judas Tadeu in Brazil, as well as several other academic institutions as a visiting professor

Dr. Stefano Maria Ronco is a postdoctoral research fellow at IBFD. He was previously a lecturer and postdoctoral research fellow in tax law at the University of Milan-Bicocca (Italy) and a tax law tutor (since 2015) at the University of Turin.

Yolanda Arbon is a Project Coordinator at IBFD Academic. Previously, Ms Arbon worked for 7 years as the Executive Secretary at IBFD. In this role, Ms Arbon was the first point of contact for the members of the Executive Board. She was also responsible for providing support to the Board of Trustees.

Cristian San Felipe Maestre is a Project Coordinator at IBFD Academic responsible for the executive aspects of all IBFD Academic publications, namely the Global Tax Treaties Commentaries collection, the World Tax Journal, the International Tax Studies, and the Academic Books Series. He is also responsible for the Observatory on the Protection of Taxpayers’ Rights.
Maro Tyfoxylou is a project coordinator for academic research and also provides support for the IBFD/UVA advanced master's programme in international taxation. She holds a master's degree in Education from the Hellenic Open University, Greece (2012). She is fluent in three European languages and has an excellent knowledge of two others. Prior to joining the IBFD Academic Team, Ms Tyfoxylou worked as a project manager for 12 years and was also an oral examiner for the Greek National Foreign Language Exam System.
Administrative Assistant
Dina Justo is the Administrative Assistant of the Academic Team. She holds a Management degree from Universidade Aberta, Portugal. She is fluent in two European languages with basic knowledge of two others. Prior to joining the IBFD Academic Team, she worked for 8 years as Administrative Assistant in a major telecom company in Portugal, providing support to the sales department.
