Towards a federal sales tax in the United States?

Discussions about tax reform occur in the United States on a regular basis both in academic circles and at the political level. In the last decade, three proposals have gained more than average attention. In this article, the author deals with one of these proposals: the introduction of a national retail sales tax, and presents an overview of the background, purpose and main features of this tax.
