REITs in Spain: SOCIMIs, a Second Generation of REITs?

In this note, the author provides an overview of real estate investment listed corporations in Spain, which were, under the initial draft bill, to be regulated in a similar manner as REITs in other countries. Following the economic downturn, however, the regulation of these entities under the revised bill was substantially changed to learn from the lessons in other countries and take advantage of new market opportunities.
