The introduction of general anti-avoidance rules in India has given rise to a great deal of anxiety. This article reviews the current anti-avoidance scenario in India before analysing the issues and disputes that have arisen over the years. It concludes with the authors analysing the moves to introduce anti-avoidance rules and the recommendations contained in the Shome Committee report.
