The State Council has published a Framework Agreement on the in-depth cooperation between Guangdong Province and Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR), whereby a part of the jurisdiction of Hengqin in Guangdong will be delegated to Macao. The Agreement will also create a cooperative zone that will be administrated jointly by Guangdong Province and Macao.

Hengqin is located just across from Macao SAR and both are currently connected via a bridge. A total area of 106 sq km will be zoned off for the cooperation, which is meant to enrich the practice of “one country, two systems” and will be an important driving force for Macao’s long-term development.
