The 2020/2021 UvA-IBFD Advanced Master’s in International Tax Law (LLM) starts onlineSep-21-2020
The Advanced Master’s in International Tax Law has officially started. This year, 24 students are enrolled in the UvA-IBFD LLM programme which, due to the current circumstances, will be offered fully online until at least 1 January 2021. The new structure that will be in place in this online environment, includes live Zoom sessions combined with short tutorial videos, and a variety of mandatory and proposed literature that is complemented by a large amount of self-study by the students.
The academic year started for the new students on Tuesday, 25 August with the UvA online introduction day. The students, connected online, had the opportunity to discuss relevant issues with the programme director Prof. Dr Sjoerd Douma and the LLM coordination team and watch short introductory videos produced by the University of Amsterdam.
On Thursday, 27 August, the students were virtually present for the LLM graduation ceremony of the 2019-2020 class as the event was streamed on YouTube for them and the general public.
On the following day, the six students who were already present in the Netherlands attended the UvA on-campus introduction.
On Monday, 31 August, Prof. Dr Pasquale Pistone, Prof. Jan de Goede and the IBFD library team welcomed the students during the online Zoom IBFD introduction day. Prof. Dr Pistone and Prof. de Goede gave them a flavour of IBFD, explaining its vision and mission, its different departments and its structure. The IBFD library team presented a virtual library tour to the students and explained briefly how the students can benefit from the services that the library provides. The event also included a lecture by the IBFD Professor in Residence, Prof. Dr Patricia Brown, titled “Impressions from an International Tax Career”. On that Monday, the academic year officially started for the students.
