Wilbert Nieuwenhuizen is a tax adviser specializing in VAT, a lecturer at the University of Amsterdam, a part-time judge at the Court of Appeal and a widely published author on VAT matters.
Mr Nieuwenhuizen studied Law, Tax Law and Tax Economics at the University of Amsterdam. In 1986, he started his career with the Dutch tax authorities as a VAT inspector. After working for several years for Ernst & Young and Coopers & Lybrand (PWC), he started his own VAT advisers company in 2004. In 1996, he started lecturing at the University of Amsterdam and, since 2001, he has also served as a part-time judge at the Court of Appeal in The Hague (one of the four tax courts of appeal in the Netherlands). Outside of his day-to-day business, he has also published books on VAT, articles on VAT in various tax magazines and loose-leaf booklets on VAT. He is, in addition, the editor-in-chief of a weekly tax magazine for tax professionals, as well as the author of the annually updated book on the VAT case law of the European Court of Justice that has been published in Dutch for the past ten years. Furthermore, he gives frequent seminars and lectures on VAT for tax advisers, tax judges, tax inspectors and accountants.
