Theophilus I. Emuwa is the Managing Partner and head of the Tax Practice Group at ǼLEX. He is admitted to the Bar in England and Wales, and in Nigeria and Ghana. His practice is focused on corporate and commercial law and taxation with over 30 years’ experience. Mr. Emuwa regularly advises IOC’s and other multinationals in Nigeria and Ghana, and draws on his multifaceted background of law and engineering to provide insightful advice to the firm’s clients on transaction structures and on tax disputes. He is widely acknowledged as one of Nigeria’s leading tax lawyers. Mr. Emuwa has litigated cases before the Tax Appeal Tribunal in Nigeria and has advised on tax-related arbitrations in Nigeria and Ghana respectively.
Mr. Emuwa was for many years chairman of the Tax Committee of the Section on Business Law of the Nigerian Bar Association. He is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria and a member of the International Fiscal Association (IFA). He has presented papers at various international conferences, including the Asia-Africa Conference of IFA Mauritius, and was once the deputy editor of Nigerian Tax Notes as well as a contributor to the CITN Nigerian Tax Guides and Statutes.
