May Abo Ghally is an independent international tax and tax policy expert, MENA region. She has more than 15 years of MENA and UK experience, focused on tax, at the Egyptian Ministry of Finance, supporting tax administrations and Big-4 consultancy firms and working in-house.
Ms Ghally was a member of the core team that designed, revised and implemented the VAT regime in both the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. She spent 2 years as Senior Technical Assistant to the Vice Minister of Finance for Tax Policy in Egypt, with a mandate to support the development and monitor the implementation of the Egyptian tax policy framework and the reform of the tax administration.
Prior to joining the Egyptian Ministry of Finance, Ms Ghally gained solid experience in providing taxation and business advisory services in the United Kingdom, North Africa and Europe to both local and multinational corporations. She served as Senior Tax Advisor, North Africa, in one of the FTSE 100 major oil players, managing direct and indirect tax compliance and tax risks in developed and developing countries.
Ms Ghally is a member of the UK State Aid association in London and served previously as Egypt’s delegate member of the BEPS Steering Group, the BEPS Implementation Framework, the Ad Hoc Group on the Multilateral Instrument and the Global Forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information.
