Mark Koek is Tax Counsel at LyondellBasell Industries, one of the world largest plastics, chemical and refining companies.
He started his career in 1995 as an international corporate tax specialist for PwC and Deloitte, and in-house at Interpolis (insurance company). In 2003, he moved from tax planning to tax accounting and worked both in-house for Liberty Global and as self-employed consultant for several large multinationals as a tax accounting specialist. In 2011, he joined LyondellBasell Industries as a Senior Manager Tax Accounting to improve and lead their tax accounting processes for Europe, Asia and South America. After three years he changed back to tax planning as Tax Counsel with country responsibilities for some of the European countries and focal point for the European shared service centre with respect to all corporate tax matters.
Mr Koek is co-author of Tax Accounting, Unravelling the Mysteries of Income Taxes (IBFD 2015) and also lectures on tax assurance and tax accounting-related topics at Erasmus University, Rotterdam, Nyenrode University, Breukelen (the Netherlands) and IBFD, Amsterdam.
