Luís Flávio Neto

Luís Flávio Neto is a postdoctoral research fellow at IBFD. He is also a professor at the Instituto Brasileiro de Direito Tributário (IBDT) in Brazil, where he has taught international and Brazilian taxation courses. He has also taught undergraduate and postgraduate courses at the Universidade São Judas Tadeu in Brazil, as well as several other academic institutions as a visiting professor. In addition, since 2015, Dr Neto has worked as a judge at the highest Brazilian Administrative Tax Court (Câmara Superior de Recursos Fiscais, Conselho Administrativo de Recursos Fiscais – CARF), where he was awarded the distinguished “Ministro Leopoldo Bulhões” medal for outstanding contributions in 2017.

Prior to his position at IBFD, Dr Neto participated in research activities at the Fredric G. Levin College of Law, University of Florida (United States), while a Visiting Research Scholar during the 2017 to 2018 term. He also served at the Institute for Austrian and International Tax Law, Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien in Vienna as a Visiting Researcher in 2014 and at IBDT as Researcher Fellow from 2008 to 2009.

Dr Neto holds an LLM and a PhD from the Universidade de São Paulo (USP) in Brazil. His PhD thesis (“‘Context’ of the interpretation and application of tax treaties”) was awarded cum laude and published as a book in the “IBDT Doctrine Series”. He has also authored several articles and book chapters, and he has been a member of various editorial boards.
