Justice P P Bhatt
Justice P.P. Bhatt was invited to join the judiciary and appointed as Judge of the City Civil and Sessions Court in 1995, and he was appointed Member Secretary of the Gujarat State Legal Service Authority in 2001.
In 2003, he was appointed as Registrar of the High Court of Gujarat and, subsequently, became the first Registrar General of the High Court of Gujarat, playing a proactive role in bringing about administrative reforms in the field of infrastructure, the creation of new posts and the use of Information Technology in the High Court as well as the District Judiciary.
Justice Bhatt was elevated as an Additional Judge of the High Court of Gujarat in 2011, transferred as an Additional Judge of the Jharkhand High Court at Ranchi (also in 2011), and retransferred to the High Court of Gujarat in 2016. He retired as a judge of the Gujarat High Court in 2018 but was reappointed as President of India’s Income Tax Appellate Tribunal, functioning from 28 cities and 63 benches all over India, and which is the final fact-finding authority in direct tax matters, including in matters relating to international taxation and transfer pricing in India. On 24 October 2018, he assumed charge as President of the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal.
