Ivan Lazarov is a postdoctoral research fellow at IBFD. He was previously a research and teaching associate at the Institute for Austrian and International Tax Law, Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU) and is part of the Doctoral Program in International Business Taxation (DIBT) there.
Mr Lazarov received his law degree from Sofia University (Bulgaria) and holds an LLM in international and European business law from KU Leuven (Belgium). His doctoral thesis is entitled “Anti-Tax-Avoidance in Corporate Taxation under EU Law: The Internal Market Narrative”. He has done a research stay at the Court of Justice of the European Union and has worked as a research associate in public international law at Friedrich Schiller University Jena (Germany).
In the course of his research at the WU, Mr Lazarov received several awards for his publications, and he has participated in numerous conferences as a speaker. He has taught classes in international and European tax law to bachelor’s and master’s students, as well as at summer schools in Vienna and Beijing. His main research interests are in the areas of EU direct tax law, anti-tax avoidance measures, the interaction between general public international law and tax treaties, and fundamental rights protection in the European Union.
