Dr Ivan Lazarov is a postdoctoral research fellow at IBFD. He obtained his PhD degree at the Vienna University of Economics and Business as part of the Doctoral Program in International Business Taxation (DIBT). He was also a research and teaching associate at the Institute for Austrian and International Tax Law in Vienna.
Dr Lazarov received his law degree at Sofia University (Bulgaria) and holds an LL.M. in International and European Business Law from KU Leuven (Belgium). His doctoral thesis at the WU is entitled “Anti-Tax-Avoidance in Corporate Taxation under EU Law: The Internal Market Narrative”. He has done a research stay at the Court of Justice of the European Union and has previously worked as a research associate in public international law at Friedrich Schiller University Jena (Germany).
During his research at the WU, Dr Lazarov has received several research awards for his publications and has participated in numerous conferences as a speaker. He has taught classes in International and European Tax Law to bachelor and master students, as well as at summer schools in Vienna and Beijing. His main research interest is in the areas of EU direct tax law, anti-tax avoidance measures, the interaction between general public international law and tax treaties, and fundamental rights protection in the European Union.
