Eline Polak is heading the Indirect Tax group of Mazars Amsterdam, where she deals with VAT, customs and excise. She has broad experience in the field of customs, excise and VAT-related issues serving clients in high-duty industries such as food and beverages, apparel, chemicals, consumer goods, pharma and electronics.
In her current role, Ms Polak represents clients in European and global cross-border distribution, manufacturing and logistics projects. The services include determining and implementing customs and excise savings, mitigating the administrative burden, implementing customs and/or excise warehouse regimes and EMCS, ensuring compliance with EU and national legislation, optimizing e-business, drafting or reviewing agreements with logistics service providers and obtaining rulings with the customs and excise authorities on customs valuation, classification of products, origin, and all other international trade-related indirect tax issues. She works together with the indirect tax specialists of Mazars in the European Union and globally on a day-to-day basis; for globally operating companies she serves as the point of contact in multi-country projects. She is also one of the directors of the Mazars allied fiscal representative company VAT-Assist BV.
Ms Polak started her career at the VAT and international trade, customs & excises group of KPMG in 1993 and, from 1998, worked as a tax lawyer at Baker & McKenzie. She is associated with the Arnhem-Leeuwarden Court of Appeal as a Deputy Judge and is a frequent author in indirect tax publications.
