David Bakibinga

Prof. David J. Bakibinga is Professor and Head of the Department of Commercial Law at Makerere University, Uganda. He is a Fellow of the Uganda National Academy of Sciences (FUNAS), African Academy of Sciences (FAAS) and The World Academy of Sciences (FTWAS), respectively. Prof Bakibinga has taught law for over three and a half decades at the Nigerian Universities of Sokoto, Jos, Imo State, Ilorin and Ogun State (1981-1990), Makerere University (1991 to date), Eastern and Southern African Management Institute (ESAMI) (1999-2002) and Uganda Christian University (2010).

He is the author of the following books: Law of Trusts in Nigeria (1989); Nigerian Law of Partnership (1989); Partnership Law in Uganda (1992); Value Added Tax: Introduction, Rationale and the Law (1996); Company Law in Uganda (1993); Law of Contract in Uganda (1996); Commercial Law in a Liberalized Economy: The Case of Uganda (2002); Revenue Law in Uganda (2003); Equity and Trusts in Uganda (2003); Uganda Property and Trust Law (2011); Uganda: Transport Law (2014); Intellectual Property Law in East Africa (2016), and numerous scholarly articles. He also served as Chancellor of Busoga Diocese in Uganda (1995-2015) and is the current Secretary-General of the Uganda National Academy of Sciences.

Prof. Bakibinga is a former Head of the Department of Law at the University of Ilorin, Nigeria, and Dean of Law at Makerere University, Uganda, and Ogun State University, Nigeria, respectively. In addition, he was the Founding Commissioner/Head of Legal Services at the Uganda Revenue Authority (1991-1997), and the Director of the School of Graduate Studies (2003-2004), as well as Deputy Vice Chancellor: Finance and Administration (2004-2009), at Makerere University.
