Charles Makola is an International Tax Partner and Tax Policy Leader at EY South Africa. He has more than 10 years of tax experience advising on various aspects of international corporate tax, corporate restructurings and exchange controls. Mr Makola was previously a director at the South African National Treasury where he was responsible for writing tax legislation, negotiating tax treaties and for the ancillary approval of exchange control transactions on significant transactions referred to the minister for approval.
His practical experience includes corporate reorganizations, inbound and outbound tax exposure reviews and planning, multi-country tax health checks, operating model effectiveness, financial instruments structuring, holding structure, IP, capital structure planning, tax audits and compliance. Mr Makola is a Tax Lecturer Extraordinaire at the University of Pretoria and an International Tax Committee member of the South African Institute of Tax Practitioners.
