Aneesa Baig is a Director at National Treasury, South Africa, responsible for VAT legislative policy and design. She is an admitted attorney with BA and LLB degrees from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, as well as a Higher Diploma in Taxation Law from the University of Johannesburg.
Ms Baig has been a member of the Tax Court since 2006, and she was recently appointed as the Chairperson of the SADC Indirect Tax Working Group. She represents South Africa at the OECD’s Working Party 9, Technical Advisory Group, Platforms Task Team and Global Forum meetings relating to taxing the digital economy from an indirect tax perspective. Ms Baig has been driving the South African VAT legislative reforms in this area and has presented on this topic at the OECD’s Working Party 9 meeting (in Paris), the United Nations Special Meeting on International Cooperation in Tax Matters meeting (in New York) and at the IMF Tax Policy and Administration Training (in Mauritius).
