About IBFD
IBFD, your portal to cross-border tax expertise
Since 1938, tax practitioners from all over the world rely on the International Bureau of Fiscal Documentation (IBFD) for authoritative expertise on cross-border taxation. IBFD is the portal to high quality independent tax research, international tax information and education with the aim to enable customers to do their work more quickly and efficiently. The wealth of IBFD’s experience and knowledge is reflected in the make-up of the organization. IBFD employs over 50 research specialists and teacher’s staff from around 25 different countries.
International focus
IBFD has grown from a tax documentation centre into a contemporary online research institute. It caters for both the private and the public sector. It fulfils the information needs of tax advisory firms, multinational enterprises, international organizations, ministries of finance, tax administrations, universities and other tax practitioners in over 150 countries.
Independent
Significantly, IBFD operates on a not-for-profit basis and is completely independent. This is very much reflected in the objective and unbiased approach of our products, consultancy, education and software. IBFD’s organization is divided into IBFD's Products and Services, which covers all publishing, educational, research and consultancy activities, and IBFD Foundation which executes several Academic Activities. IBFD’s house-style inspired by ’De Stijl’
Did you ever wonder where the inspiration for the primary colours and bold shapes used in IBFD’s communications came from? The design used in IBFD’s brochures, website etc. is inspired by ’De Stijl’, a style developed in the Netherlands in the early 20th century. Mondriaan and Rietveld remain two of its most famous ambassadors.
Closely related to the Bauhaus style, this movement was truly international and started only two decades before IBFD was founded in 1938. This style has remained relevant and still influences many art and design forms. Both ’De Stijl’ and Bauhaus use clarity of form and colour to express modernity and timelessness.
IBFD’s link to ’De Stijl’, is through its representation of breadth of vision, solidness, and continuous innovation, qualities that we rate extremely highly and try to emulate in everything we do. By using ’De Stijl’ in our corporate house-style we aim to communicate our continuous efforts to ’build’ a comprehensive electronic warehouse of tax information based on our ’foundation’ of vast experience and cross-border tax expertise.
Incidentally, the many different shapes (circles, triangles and rectangles) in the house-style are enlarged components of our logo, which itself is a representation of Muiderpoort, the former location of IBFD in the Sarphatistraat, Amsterdam.
